ESPN: Yanks Pull Santana Deal Off the Table

First of all, let me address yesterday’s fiasco. I’m absolutely stunned and disgusted right now. I have to give the Giants credit for playing mistake-free football, while the Cowboys repeatedly shot themselves in the foot with silly penalties and crippling dropped passes. While the ending wasn’t as gut-wrenching as last year’s debacle, this loss was tougher and will make for a more miserable off-season. It will take me a long, long time to get over this game.

That being said, Spring Training cannot come sooner. For the Yankees, pitchers and catchers report on February 14, exactly one month from today. It’s been an active off-season for the Yanks, one filled with a lot of trade discussion regarding Minnesota ace Johan Santana. The Yankees have gone back and forth over whether or not they want to trade for Santana. Today, ESPN is reporting that the Yankees are no longer in the mix for Santana. However, this is not the first time we’ve heard this. I won’t count the Yankees out of the Santana race unless he is traded to another team or until the July 31 trade deadline passes. The ideal scenario for me is to see the Twins hold on to Santana for the year. He will be a free agent next off-season, and I’d like to see the Yankees make a run for him at that time, when they don’t have to trade away promising pitcher Phil Hughes to get him. Either way, I’ll be happy as long as he doesn’t end up on the Red Sox. I’m out.
